Umbra is an initiative of Pavec gallery, it is a scholarly journal designed as a space for research and reflection on a living history of art.

Its editorial focus centers on the unique fields of art history and historiography that remain little explored, on women artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, and on forgotten or neglected creators. The journal aims to contribute to an active and enriched understanding of art history.

Umbra follows a hybrid format:
• Academic contributions;
• Open formats (critical essays, interviews, research notebooks, artists’ texts, curatorial statements) that broaden possible approaches and combine rigor and vitality;
All evaluated by a reading committee.

Twice a year, a call for contributions is launched, resulting in an online issue composed of articles approved by the review committee.

Promoted by the École du Louvre in particular, the journal aims to foster dialogue between the academic world, institutions, and the contemporary art scene, in order to offer a history of art that is not merely a discipline, but a space for thought, openness, and imagination.
