WATER CALLING : L’APPEL DE L'EAU: ISABELLE DAËRON

Pavec is delighted to announce a solo exhibition by artist and designer Isabelle Daëron, entitled Water Calling: l'appel de l'eau, to be held from September 5 to 27, 2025.
The exhibition brings together a series of works that immerse visitors in the sensitive and mysterious world of Kyoto's water table, revealing a buried, almost secret world.

Since 2022, Isabelle Daëron has been exploring the geological and cultural strata of this Japanese city, in collaboration with curator Yoshiko Nagai. This project, a cross between drawing, research and installation, explores the way in which underground water has shaped the topography, know-how and collective imagination of Kyoto since the Heian period. How can we make sense of this invisible water, a vital fluid buried beneath the city, whose volume is equivalent to that of Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan?

In the gallery space, visitors will discover a series of felt-tip pen drawings in which the lines, inspired by geophysical surveys and the sounds of water, create an intimate cartography of underground flows. An in situ installation will take the form of a well, symbolically sculpting an access to the invisible world of deep water and inviting a silent immersion. Among the works on display, the chantepleures, ceramic watering cans inspired by a medieval model, embody a simple and poetic gesture of relationship with water, between transmission and use. Finally, a carpet, like a fragment of inhabited soil, will anchor the diffuse memory of water in the material.

Water Calling is an exhibition like a subterranean murmur, an attempt to translate through drawing and form what the earth contains that is alive, fluid and precious. It bears witness to the work of Isabelle Daëron, whose approach, somewhere between ecological design and sensitive storytelling, seeks to reveal the invisible dynamics of the world. By blending art, science and vernacular knowledge, this exhibition weaves a delicate dialogue between France and Japan, between surface and depth, between silence and listening.
