MAURICE DENIS
Pavec gallery dedicates its first exhibition to Maurice Denis, the natural culmination of a project begun over a year ago focused on Madeleine Dinès, his daughter, an artist herself who has been overlooked for far too long. It was through working on the rediscovery of her work that the gallery was led to reconsider the paternal legacy and to cast a fresh eye on this already established figure, free from the conventional interpretations that have long confined Denis to ornamentation or spirituality.
This exhibition thus invites us to reconsider Maurice Denis as a fundamentally modern artist: the builder of an autonomous pictorial universe, for whom the domestic home served as both laboratory and subject. This approach is part of the gallery’s broader mission: to reexamine well-known works from perspectives that art history has not always prioritized.
